Women’s Soccer to Play for New England Championship

Lady Cougars Victorious in Regional Semifinal

(Lincoln, RI) - Women's soccer won their regional tournament semifinal this afternoon, defeating Quinsigamond CC 1-0. With the win, the Lady Cougars advance to play in tomorrow's New England championship game. Holyoke will travel back to the site of today's victory to square off against tournament host and top seed CC of Rhode Island at 12 noon.

Defender Grace Downer (Easthampton, MA / Easthampton HS) scored the Cougars' lone goal, a second-half tally that came from well outside the 18-yard box. Goalkeeper Donna Viel (Woronoco, MA / Gateway Regional HS) made four saves to earn the shutout, her and the team's third of the season. Emma Jacobs (Ware, MA / Ware HS) and Emily Yan (Southampton, MA / Hampshire Regional HS) each played a strong game for Holyoke.

The women's soccer program will be making their 19th consecutive appearance in the New England championship game, having won the prestigious title 12 times. Let's go Cougars!
