Women’s Soccer Wins Pair of Regional Games
Lady Cougars Clinch Postseason Birth
(Holyoke, MA) - Women's soccer defeated regional opponent Bunker Hill CC 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon, one day after clinching a post season birth. The victory gave the Lady Cougars their second shutout of the season. Holyoke was gifted a regional forfeit win over local rival Springfield Technical CC on Tuesday. The Cougars have not lost to STCC since 2008 and now have a 34-game winning streak over their local rival.
Christina Pereira (Warren, MA / Pathfinder Regional HS) took charge of the offense on Wednesday, scoring a goal while assisting on the other. Pereira, normally the Lady Cougars' center back, was moved into the midfield where she could help spark the attack. Nora Goncalves (Williamsburg, MA / Ludlow HS) tallied Holyoke's first goal of the game, burying a rebound. Goalkeeper Donna Viel (Woronoco, MA / Gateway Regional HS) made three saves and earned the shutout. Emily Yan (Westhampton, MA / Hampshire Regional HS) assisted the second goal with a nicely played through ball.
The Lady Cougars have a 3-4 regional record and a 3-8 overall record. Based on the result of their last regional game against Quinsigamond CC, Holyoke can finish as high as second in the regional standings or as low as fourth. Their game vs QCC is scheduled for Saturday, October 21st with a weather makeup date of Tuesday, October 24th. Let's go Cougars!
